Healthcare Reform

Has this Healthcare debate ever brought out the worst in people! The lies, and the fact that so many people are so quick to not only believe them... but to spread them around, is incredibly sad.

Healthcare is a basic, essential, human need. Like police and fire protection.

Insurance companies are gouging the consumer and have little regulation. They are worse than oil cartels.

Reform won't only insure Americans in need of healthcare who can't get insured now... but it's been proven that it would have a positive impact on the national deficit. So, why can't we solve this problem, right here and now?

Well, first of all it will take real leaders, which are few and far between. The ones (from both parties) that take large donations from the Insurance and Pharmaceuticals industries won't step up. Don't put your confidence in them. But do hound them with what you expect from them if they want to be re-elected.

But more importantly, it will take Americans seeking the truth. Lies and deceipt abound. Seek the truth. Even if you didn't vote for President Obama, even if you disagree with him on wedge issues - don't write this off just because he is trying to push this through. This is not a wedge issue, and it truly will help us all.

It doesn't take away anyone's freedom to buy whatever insurance they want to buy. It doesn't invade anyone's privacy (if you're concerned about this, you should have been screaming about the Patriot Act). It doesn't insure illegal immigrants. It doesn't pay for abortions. And if you still believe there would be death panels, then you are listening to talk show hosts who lie.

And contrary to what many are trying make us believe... Canadians are happy with their healthcare system. Not that what is being proposed is even close to the socialized medicine of Canada and many other democratic countries. I actually wish it were, but in the end, I suppose I'd settle for some reform.
